Educational Testing Service (ETS) is currently hiring qualified people to score and rate the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) writing assessment. The TOEIC is a language proficiency test designed for people whose native language is not English. This test measures the everyday English skills of individuals working in an International environment.
As an approved TOEIC Rater, you will score written constructed responses from home for this program. Ultimately, you must successfully complete the required training sessions and become certified to score this assessment.
In order to work on this project, you must have a secure Internet connection, a reliable computer, and have a phone (mobile or landline) to make and receive calls while you are connected to the Internet. You must also hold a B.A. degree or higher from an accredited school. In addition, ETS states that they prefer raters with some experience teaching ESL (or similar courses) at the high school, college, or adult learning level.
Work Schedule (quoted directly from the job posting):
Raters are scheduled for four or eight hour scoring sessions. The available shifts are as follows:
- Scoring Shifts: must be able to score at last one of the following shifts in its entirety. All times are in EST.
- 8:30a – 5:00p
- 8:30a – 12:30p
- 11:30a – 8:00p
- 11:30a – 3:30p
- 1:00p – 5:00p
- 4:00p – 8:00p
- Scoring Days:
- Writing: Predominantly Monday and Thursday; Sunday – Thursday during SP week, which is once per month
Pay Rate
The Pay Rate for this position is not listed in the job posting. However, based upon my own knowledge and personal experience working for this company, the hourly pay rate is probably between $13-$15 per hour. In addition, raters are paid for completing the required training and certification sessions.
